Detroit Red Wings assign Filip Hronek, Robbie Russo to AHL

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have assigned defensemen Filip Hronek and Robbie Russo to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. The Red Wings announced the moves before their preseason finale at Toronto on Saturday. Detroit also released center Corey Elkins from a professional tryout, recalled defenseman Dan Renouf from Grand Rapids and signed right wing Dominik Shine to a tryout. Russo played 19 games for the Red Wings last season and did not have a point. Source link

Frank Hamblen, former Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls assistant coach, dies at age 70

LOS ANGELES — Frank Hamblen, who won seven NBA championships as an assistant to Phil Jackson in Los Angeles and Chicago, died Saturday. He was 70. The Lakers said Hamblen died in Del Mar. They did not provide a cause of death. Hamblen helped the Lakers win three straight titles from 2000 to 2002 then back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
