Australia pay dispute: Are the Ashes really under threat?

David Warner has been vocal in his support of the cricketers’ union What a mess. There’s no other way to describe the fact the deadline has passed for Australia’s cricketers to pen a pay deal with the board and no agreement is in place. The result? Unemployment with immediate effect. The implications? Vast. The Ashes? Who knows. Why is this happening? Cricket Australia (CA) has to craft a Memorandum of Understanding with the players – represented by the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) – every five years. It is, essentially, a…

General manager Ron Hextall announced the surgery Friday, a week after the Flyers selected Patrick in the draft. Patrick missed three months last season with a similar injury. At the scouting combine in early June, Patrick said he had a sports hernia on both sides and one was “misdiagnosed.” Philadelphia-based Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery. Patrick went…

Amy Yang falls out of lead in second round of Women’s PGA Championship

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Danielle Kang won back-to-back majors as an amateur yet she’s never cracked the winner’s circle in her half-dozen years as a pro. The 24-year-old Californian took a big step in the right direction, grabbing a share of the second-round lead in the morning wave Thursday at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Her biggest hurdle could well be co-leader Sei Young Kim, the LPGA Tour’s 2015 Rookie of the Year and already a six-time winner on tour. Kang and Kim each shot 5-under 66 to reach 7-under…

ESPN’s 2017 AL and NL All-Stars picks

The All-Star managers have been relieved of the burden of filling out the National League and American League rosters, thankfully, because every year the explanations can be no better than imperfect. There are only 32 spots on each All-Star team, with the guidelines requiring selection for at least one player from every team in each league. That rule and others box in the choices, and inevitably players worthy of selection are left off and feelings are hurt. In advance of the Esurance All-Star Selection Show on Sunday (7 p.m. ET…
